Activities at Rio Vista Resort
Rio Vista
is actually very different in the summer than it is in the winter. During the
summer months, the resort is a buzz with lake activities and water sports. Boats
are being taken in and out of the lake on our boat ramp. The boat slips and
piers are full of ski boats, fishing boats, and jet skis. Groups without their
own boats rent our kayak or canoe, or have jet skis and larger boats delivered
to our pier from other
places on the lake. People are swimming in
the lake and the swimming pool. Families are playing baseball, bocce,
pool, horseshoes or other games. You can smell the barbeques and hear the
laughter. It is truly a fun place to be!
In the
winter, things change. The Winter Texans arrive from Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois,
Canada, etc. They bring with them a zest for life and a happy spirit. They play
golf, go antiquing, play card games, play pool, visit area sites and fish, fish,
fish. As a group, we go out to dinner, have pot luck suppers, breakfasts and
brunches. (Yes, a lot of our activities do revolve around food.) But, we also
play bingo or texas hold'em and have Christmas parties, Valentine parties, St. Patty's Day
parties, etc. - you get the picture. In the winter, we also have visiting bald
eagles. There is an eagle's nest just six miles from Rio Vista, and the eagles
stay well into April.

Winter or
summer, people enjoy the area attractions, which include the Nightengale
Archaeological Center in Kingsland, Longhorn Caverns, Inks Lake State Park, the
Vanishing Texas River Cruise, several wineries, Enchanted Rock, the Lyndon B.
Johnson Ranch, etc. In the Spring, we are in the middle of wildflower country,
and in the Fall, we are in the middle of deer hunting country. Austin is a short
sixty miles away, and San Antonio is only eighty-five miles away. But there are
other interesting towns, such as Llano, Fredericksburg, Burnet and Marble Falls,
each with its own unique charm. There are many golf courses close by and dozens
of restaurants.
The
Senior Center has various activities for Senior Citizens, and it is only a few
blocks away. The Library is one block away. Boat and jet ski rentals are
also available in the area. There are park benches, picnic tables and barbeque
pits available throughout the resort.
And
when you need a rest, you can soak in the hot tub, feed the ducks or the fish,
visit friends, enjoy the beautiful sunset or sunrise, look for cattle or deer
across the lake or the great blue heron on the lake, and be grateful you're at
the most beautiful resort in Central Texas. Give us a try, we know you'll love
it. Click here to check
